To me Social Justice means to have equality for everyone. No matter what person's religion, gender, race, or social class is everyone should be treated the same. People shouldn't take advantage of others or people shouldn’t be treated any different because of their appearance or what they believe in. Social Justice is the fight that people are doing now in order to eliminate the mistreatment from others and make a more positive impact on the world. In some classes that we had during our time at the school we learned about all the issues that people are facing. More specifically in my English class we had a unit where we studied the gender and racial stereotypes in the media. We learned there how people are sometimes portrayed differently just because of their race or skin color and this has always been like this but it was never given much attention. This definition has changed for me because it used to mean just to have equal rights for everyone. But now it means to to stand up for what you believe is unfair and to support others that believe in similar ideas as you.
We have faced many obstacles while attempting to achieve Social Justice. We have not yet achieved this yet, because there was so much injustice around us and that means it will take a long time to bring equality for everyone. In the past, there have been people that stood up for their rights and tried to fight for others that couldn't. Many of those people were seen as criminals and some were even put in jail because of this. In the news today we see many people that are protesting against corporations or certain people, and they are the ones that are being arrested. Then on the news there are different views that people see because of a person’s race and this can't happen anymore.
I believe that in order to achieve social justice everyone needs to be informed on the issues. People need to stop criticizing others and actually work together with one another to make a difference. Social Justice will advance in my life-time by us seeing more people stand up for what they believe in. They will start calling out the corporations that they believe is taking advantage of others. You can even see now in the media that there are protestors that will actually take action and don’t seem to care about the consequences that they face. The only way for Social Justice to advance and become a reality for everyone is if more people fight for the right causes.
I want to contribute to the Social Justice by promoting issues that I believe are important to the people in the community. In certain communities there are so many environmental problems and I would like to help them out and fix the issues. Some communities need more green space and parks, while others are just polluted with certain toxins from nearby factories. I want my career as a engineer to help those communities have less toxins and pollution from generators and more green energy that doesn't pollute the air. I care about this issue because I know that these factories are never built in rich communities and they are always placed in low income communities because most of them don’t care how it’s impacting the people that live there.
