The meat industry is a global problem, many think that the U.S. is the main contributor but in fact Australia eats the most, then America, and third is Israel. Now thinking about those three countries one stands out more than the rest. The populations between the United States is crazy. There are about 323 million people in the U.S, around 24 million in Australia, and only 8 million in Israel. Now yes, North America does consume a lot of meat a year, but there are also so many people that live here compared to other places in the world. There are so many places that eat different types of meat depending on culture or what they have easier access to. When you mention pork, poultry, and then beef. Looking at these animals there are a common thing and it's that these are the animals we here mostly about getting mistreated and inhumanely slaughtered at these factories. Now depending on where the person lives in the world they can have access to different pieces of meat then others. Also a certain culture can have an impact on what a person eats, there are some cultures that have many dishes that involve pork or beef so depending on what they are used to cooking in meals can really determine where certain meats are sold to certain countries. The economy of a country can make the cost of meat to be higher because if there is low income then people won't be able to spend much on food and they won't buy the expensive ones and that can include steak or certain fish and other seafood dishes. So there are many things that play a factor in what certain countries consume the most meat and what kind they actually buy in grocery stores. Since there is all this meat that has to taken care of, slaughtered, and transported of course there are so much negative impacts being done to our environment because of this. There are “about 500 million tons of manure each year” that are from these animal farms. Since there is no sewage plants or anything like that for this waste the company's/farms usually just move it to a site or use some of it in their soil for crops. Now when you think of all that manure being made every year and these companies not having a proper disposal for it, there is so much of it being making its way into rivers or other bodies of water that are usually nearby the area. These farmers are not being told anything because they spray liquid manure in the air creating a mist that is then carried away by the wind. So this is when nearby civilians are affected because they are forced to breathe in these toxic fumes that will eventually lead to health issue. Now is where the whole global warming part comes to effect, the carbon footprint for our food is very high , according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, “Globally, 14.5% of all greenhouse gas pollution can be attributed to livestock” This statistic is insane because the livestock contributes to so much of the gasses that are leading to an increase in global warming. The way were eating and getting our food is actually impacting our earth way more than it should be and if we don't change it soon then it will be too late and our lives will change drastically.
