When it comes to the topic of meat industry at consumption, there is mixed opinions by the public. There are those who say that eating meat is essential for iron, protein, etc. On the other hand there are those that believe that eating meat is wrong because of the things animals undergo to be able to be consumed. Debate.org asked the question, “Should people eat meat?” the results actually were impressive considering the amount of meat that people eat in the United States. 39% of the people that answered the poll said yes and 61% said no. For the most part the people who voted “yes” were saying pretty much the same thing with little variation. Most of them said yes because it provides important proteins and such that we as humans need and other were saying that it’s in our nature to do so because we are omnivores. On the contrary, people that voted yes were bringing up different points of view which included issues such as health risks, animal cruelty, and environmental issues.
Slaughterhouses have been around for quite some time and there was always controversy over it. There’s those who support the meat industry, which consist of consumers who love meat and investors in these corporations, Then there’s those who completely oppose to the meat industry, which consist of vegans, vegetarians, animal rights activists, and people who are educated in the matter. I can come to the conclusion that people educated in the matter of the issues with the meat industry oppose to meat because as I saw in the poll conducted by Debate.org, most of the people that opposed eating meat were not scientists, researchers, or activists, they were just people that knew what they were talking about. Certainly people from both sides of the arguments bring up some valid points such as the ones I stated above, but it seems to always be a fight between being a vegetarian or heavily relying on meat. What people don’t realize is that you don’t have to pick a side. You can be right in between and it will cause a positive change in all of the aspects that seem to be an issue for both sides of the argument.
