When you look at a community the first thing you notice is the people that live there. Now depending on what type of people do in fact live there, the culture can be completely different. For example the cultures of people that live close to downtown are way different to those that live in Little Village. The people that live in Little Village mostly are Hispanic and they bring that culture to the community. There are around “1.9 million Hispanics in the Chicago area.” This means that there are many dishes there that are Hispanic oriented. Now when you look at a few of the foods that are made you will notice that many of them in fact involve some sort of meat in them. When there are a cookouts or parties there are usually plenty of food that ends up being made and it almost always has some sort of meat in it. There are also plenty of street vendors that sell food on the streets. Since Chicago is a big city there are plenty of butcher shops where people can go and purchase meat. Finally, there are plenty of animal farms that are located in Illinois that sell meat to local grocery stores so everyone makes a profit off the farming business. Even though the Little Village community consumes a lot of meat but there is a organization called LVEJO. They do certain projects that really benefit the community and the people in it. They built a garden area that is 1.5 acres long and there are grown fruits and vegetables that are then given to the community. This is just another way that people are trying to get others to eat more vegetables and fruits then meat. There have been more restaurants that are strictly vegan or have more vegetarian options and this shows people that there are more options than just eating meals with meat all the time. For example, there is the restaurant El Faro and there it has vegetarian options for mexican dishes, so it gives locals a vegetarian version of hispanic dishes. Now there are so many restaurants that it's starting to get easier to find a place to eat that doesn't have meat but also has full meals for everyone.
